Asante is an accomplished Banker whose work experience covers over 30 years, with expertise in Treasury, Relationship Management, Consumer Banking and Business Development.
He is a former Executive Director of Consumer Banking at Ecobank Ghana PLC and Regional Head of Consumer Banking for the Anglophone West Africa (AWA) Region.
George joined Ecobank Ghana in December 1993 as a Treasury Officer, and later served as the country’s Deputy Treasurer, being responsible for overseeing all Ecobank Group treasury, investment banking and assets.
He was later promoted to Head of Consumer Banking, supervising the work of the various branch managers, and developing consumer business across the country, where he grew Ecobank Ghana’s branch network and deposit base substantially. At Ecobank Ghana, he also held several positions within retail banking, until his appointment as head of domestic banking and subsequent appointment to the Board in 2011. In December 2016, he was appointed Managing Director of Ecobank Liberia, where he successfully spearheaded the bank’s digital transformation agenda, in line with the Ecobank Group digitalization strategy.
He is credited for turning around Ecobank Liberia from loss making to the most profitable bank in the Liberian Banking Industry.
He was elected President of the Liberia Bankers Association in May 2022, succeeding the former President of the Liberia Bank for Development and Investment (LBDI), Mr. John B. S, Davies.
George holds an MBA in Finance and a BSC degree in Business Administration (accounting) from the University of Ghana, Legon.
He has also attended several high profile local and external training programs including, Columbia Business School, Treasury bourse game organized by Citibank, a Management Development Program for African Bankers organized by Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, and effective Risk Management training by the Ecobank Group, amongst others.
