Our History

The Liberia Bankers’ Association (LBA) was founded   in 1976 as a non-political professional, not for profit association . The  primary objectives  of the LBA  are:

To promote the continuance of a professional and sound commercial banking system in Liberia

To provide a forum for the discussion and communication of issues affecting the banking community in particular and the economy and development of Liberia in general.

To promote public and individual education of the banking industry and practices.

The  LBA is  a Legal Organization fostering  financial sector development in Liberia.  Membership of the LBA is  open to all commercial banks  operating  within  the  Republic  of Liberia. The  LBA aims to serve  its  members by enhancing  their  role as financial services  providers . This  is  accomplished  through advocacy  activities both from the  legislative  and  regulatory standpoint, public awareness  and  education, research and  the promotion of  products.

The  Association is  governed  by its  By -laws  and  constitution . The  management  of the  association is  vested   in the   secretariat under the   supervision of   the    Executive  Committee.  The  LBA plays  a pivotal role  as a stakeholder in  aiding   the  Government  of  Liberia in the  implementation of  Monetary policies.

In furtherance  of  its   objective, the  LBA  established   the Liberia   Bankers   Association  Secretariat which runs the daily operational activities of the Association. The  Secretariat is headed by  Mrs. Doreen  McIntosh, a former Bank Executive. Establishment of the  secretariat  now  provides  a physical presence for the   Secretariat on the   3rd  floor  of  the  Luke  Building, Broad  & Johnson  Streets , Monrovia . The  secretariat handles  all administrative  matters  of the  LBA , dissemination  of  information /correspondence to  and  from the  Central Bank of Liberia  and  Government  agencies , coordinates   the   interface  with  West African  Bankers   Association (WABA) and  other   Regional / Supranational  associations  and  maintains  a library, files  and  records  of the  association.

The Association is headed by the President, Mr. Olalaken Balogun, who is a MD of BLOOM BANK. Her functions  are  executed by standing committees under the supervision of the Secretariat.
