Our History

The Liberia Bankers’ Association (LBA) was founded   in 1976 as a non-political professional, not for profit association . The  primary objectives  of the LBA  are:

To promote the continuance of a professional and sound commercial banking system in Liberia

To provide a forum for the discussion and communication of issues affecting the banking community in particular and the economy and development of Liberia in general.

To promote public and individual education of the banking industry and practices.

The Liberia Bankers Association (LBA) is a legally recognized organization dedicated to fostering financial sector development in Liberia. Membership is open to all commercial banks operating within the Republic of Liberia. The LBA aims to serve its members by enhancing their role as financial service providers. This is achieved through advocacy from both legislative and regulatory perspectives, public awareness and education, research, and the promotion of financial products.

The Association is governed by its By-laws and Constitution. The management of the Association is vested in the Secretariat, under the supervision of the Executive Committee. The LBA plays a pivotal role as a stakeholder in supporting the Government of Liberia in the implementation of monetary policies.

In furtherance of its objectives, the LBA established the Liberia Bankers Association Secretariat, which is responsible for the daily operational activities of the Association. The Secretariat is headed by Mrs. Doreen McIntosh, a former bank executive. Its establishment has provided a physical presence for the Association, located on the 3rd floor of the Luke Building, at the intersection of Broad and Johnson Streets, Monrovia.

The Secretariat oversees all administrative matters of the LBA, including the dissemination of information and correspondence to and from the Central Bank of Liberia and various government agencies. It also coordinates interactions with the West African Bankers Association (WABA) and other regional or supranational associations, and maintains the Association’s library, files, and records.

The Association is led by its President, Mr. Olalekan Balogun, Managing Director of BLOOM BANK. His functions are carried out through standing committees, under the supervision of the Secretariat.
